5-Minute full body desk stretching routine: Total body reset
Is physical stiffness slowing down your work? Typing at a computer for hours forces your body into a static, compressed position. Your neck stiffens, your shoulders slide forward, your lower back arches under heavy load, your hips lock, and your wrists fatigue. No single stretch can cure this entire-body tension.
To fully reset your body, you need a quick, complete routine. In this guide, we reveal the ultimate 5-minute full body desk stretching sequence that integrates head-to-toe relief. Do this once a day to erase stiffness, boost circulation, and keep your body light and energized.
The 5-Minute Head-to-Toe Wellness Flow
Perform these 5 targeted exercises back-to-back, spending 60 seconds on each. You can complete the entire routine right in your workspace.
Minute 1: The Neck & Trap Release
* Focus: Cervical spine, upper trapezius, and shoulder joints. * How to do it: Sit tall and drop your right ear toward your right shoulder. Gently place your right hand on your head to add micro-pressure. To deepen the stretch, reach your left hand toward the floor. Hold for 20 seconds, then slowly transition to the left side. Finish with 2-3 slow, controlled shoulder rolls backward.
Minute 2: Shoulder Blade Squeezes & Chest Opener
* Focus: Reversing rounded shoulders and opening tight pectorals. * How to do it: Sit tall at the edge of your chair. Interlace your fingers behind your back, straighten your arms, pull your shoulder blades together, and lift your chest. Hold for 30 seconds. Next, bend your elbows at 90 degrees at your sides and squeeze your shoulder blades together as hard as possible for 5 seconds. Repeat the squeeze 5 times.
Minute 3: Seated Spinal Twist
* Focus: Spinal mobility and lower back decompression. * How to do it: Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor. Place your right hand on the outside of your left knee and your left hand on the back of your chair. Inhale to lengthen your spine, then exhale to gently twist your torso to the left, looking over your left shoulder. Hold for 25 seconds, breathe deeply, and switch sides.
Minute 4: Standing Hip Flexor Lunge
* Focus: Unlocking shortened hip flexors (psoas) and re-aligning the pelvis. * How to do it: Stand up and hold your chair or desk for balance. Step your left leg back into a slight lunge. Tuck your pelvis under, squeeze your left glute, and press your weight forward slightly until you feel an opening stretch in the front of your left hip. Hold for 25 seconds per side.
Minute 5: Wrists & The Calf Pump
* Focus: Preventing carpal tunnel syndrome and draining lower leg fluid. * How to do it: Extend your right arm forward, palm facing out and fingers pointing down. Use your left hand to gently pull your fingers back toward your body. Hold for 15 seconds, then switch sides. Next, stand straight behind your chair and perform 15 slow, controlled calf raises to trigger venous return.
